Portrait Photography and Storytelling - London - Ahmed Bockarie Kamara, Born Sierra Leone, 1979.
Photographs I created for Hackney Museum, London . This content was made for storytelling and exhibition purposes.
I loved Hackney when I first came here. It was this melting pot of dynamism. I really thought I wouldn’t meet so many people of my colour. Ridley Road market has been important to people of African descent by providing a wide range of ingredients used in various African Cuisines. Being away from the Gambia and Sierra Leone makes me love them even more. In some rural areas there’s no electricity at all, but the moonlight at night is so bright. You can sit on the veranda and tell stories and you forget you’re in the dark.
